A GREAT SECOND SEASON!
We finished our 2024-25 Season at Crestwood Library for Yonkers Make Music Day on Saturday, June 21, but want to note of all the great concerts we’ve enjoyed this year:
Tenor Brandon Hornsby-Selvin, YMW’s first vocalist and Purchase Conservatory of Music graduate, performed for our largest audience to date, filling New Rochelle Library’s auditorium to capacity. Brandon presented a program of art songs, spirituals and popular favorites.
Piano-violin duo Daniel Rafimayeri and Nabeel Hayek, graduate students at Juilliard, played twice for YMW. First at Grace Church in White Plains and again at New Rochelle Library.
The Alegrìa Trio, a prize-winning ensemble of graduate students from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, performed three times for enchanted audiences. Check out their videos on our new YouTube channel!
Jhoely Garay, guitarist, composer and Manhattan School of Music alumni, brought a Mexican Jazz trio to New Rochelle as part of the Library’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Jhoely also brought along a young jazz pianist she met while coaching at Carnegie Hall, José André. José’s from Bolivia, self-taught and now studies at Juilliard. He’s performed at the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall. And he’ll be playing with Juilliard friends at New Rochelle Library in the fall.
And a brass quintet from the Copland School played music from Baroque to Bernstein for ArtsFest weekend.
We’re looking forward to our third season of free concerts, helping musicians embarking on professional careers with opportunities to perform in free concerts for Westchester audiences. Hope to seeing you then.
